Background and objective : Spinal anesthesia was the useful procedure but may lead to morbidity and mortality. The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence of complications for the patients received spinal anesthesia at Kosumpisai Hospital during January 1, 2009 December 31, 2011.
Study design : This was the descriptive study with the retrospective data collection of the patients at Kosumpisai Hospital.
Results : The results of this study showed that the incidence of complication was found in 19 patients from 236 patients (8.1%). The most common complication was bradycardia in 8 patients (3.4%). Other complications found were: hypotension in 7 patients (3%), bradycardia and hypotension in 3 patients (1.3%), and urinary retention in 1 patient (0.4%). The incidences of complications in upper thoracic, lower thoracic and lumbar anesthetic level were 19.5 %,5.7% and 4.8%, respectively
Conclusions: The incidences of spinal anesthetic complications were 8.1%.The most common complication was bradycardia. The high level of anesthesia increased the incidence of complications
